Suspect acquitted over Pierina Paganelli murder case
Justice won says Louis Dassilva after release

A 35-year-old Senegalese man, Louis
Dassilva, was acquitted of the 2023 murder of his elderly
neighbour Pierina Paganelli in Rimini early on Wednesday by a
court on the Adriatic city after 16 hours of deliberations.
The case of Paganelli, who was stabbed 29 times, has gripped the
attention of the Italian public over the last three years.
Prosecutors did not find forensic evidence on the victim's body
implicating Dassilva and their case was based principally on the
testimony of Paganelli's daughter-in-law Manuela Bianchi, who
found the dead body in a garage on October 4, 2023.
Bianchi was having an affair with Dassilva and told
investigators she had met him shortly before finding Paganelli's
body.
She said Dassilva had told her what to do and what to say to the
police.
Among the evidence presented during the trial was recordings of
wiretaps in which the defendant asked a witch doctor to do
voodoo rites to put curses on the police and prosecutor working
in the case.
"Justice has been done. Justice has won," Dassilva, who had been
in prison since July 2024 and risked a life sentence, said after
leaving jail.
"It's the rebirth of justice".
After being released Dassilva was embraced by his Italian wife
Valeria Bartolucci, who stood by him throughout the trial.
