CEBU CITY, Philippines — Ellen Adarna recently looked back on one of the most unforgettable pieces of advice she received from her late father: not to let any man easily hurt her.
In her guest appearance on “Kuan on One” with Melai Cantiveros, Adarna recalled how her father comforted her during her first heartbreak when she was still in high school.
She shared that she cried for months over her first boyfriend, to the point that her father noticed her swollen eyes and decided to talk to her.

“No man is worth your tears,” she recalled her father telling her.
Adarna said her father had repeatedly reminded her not to rush into marriage, often joking, “Ayaw na pagminyo, panganak lang.”

For Adarna, this advice later became memorable, as part of it seemed to reflect what eventually happened in her own life.
She also admitted that her early ideas about love and marriage were shaped by romantic stories and Disney-like “happily ever after” endings, but experience eventually taught her that real life is different.
She said she does not regret having experienced marriage, adding that it became part of her personal growth and learning.
Adarna married actor Derek Ramsay on November 11, 2021; the two are now separated.
