See Ryan Reynolds, Michael Bublé and More Take Over Canada's World Cup Opening Ceremony
There are some major world stars enjoying the World Cup 2026.
The quadrennial soccer tournament kicked off in Mexico City June 11, with Mexico defeating South Africa 2-0. In addition to Mexico, the United States and Canada are also co-hosting this year and, trust, plenty of stars have been stepping out to show their support for their respective teams.
Indeed, Ryan Reynolds was in the stands in Toronto June 12 cheering on his home country of Canada, who tied 1-1 against Bosnia. Meanwhile, stars like Paris Hilton, Tobey Maguire, Rob Lowe and Jafaar Jackson attended Los Angeles Stadium to cheer on Team USA against Paraguay.
The competitive spirit was alive and well with athletes like New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart and former U.S. Women’s National team stars Christen Press and Tobin Heath showing up for the first World Cup soccer game on U.S. soil in 32 years.
Of course, stars aren’t just showing support for the sporting event from the stands. At the opening ceremonies across Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles June 12, plenty paid homage to their home teams onstage.
Canadian Alanis Morissette—who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame just one day prior—appeared June 12 at the event in Toronto alongside fellow Canada natives Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé and Alessia Cara.
Meanwhile, Shakira and Burna Boy headlined the Mexico City kick-off alongside J Balvin, Tyla, Alejandro Fernandez and Danny Ocean on June 11.
As for what went down stateside for the U.S. opening ceremony? Katy Perry ended the festivities at Los Angeles Stadium after Future, Tyla, Anitta and LISA hit the stage. Prior to taking the field—where Team USA is facing off against Team Paraguay—the “California Gurls” singer assured she was going to bring the performance of a lifetime, saying in a May 8 announcement, “Kicking my feet because I’m performing.”

And other stars have already joined in on action, too. Kim Kardashian appeared in a Nike World Cup ad earlier this month alongside her and ex Kanye West’s 10-year-old son Saint West—a huge soccer fan—that declared summer 2026, because of the soccer tournament, the “summer of dreams.”
Other celebs including Channing Tatum, Travis Scott, LeBron James, Jason Sudeikis and Portuguese national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo also appeared in the commercial.
While Kardashian herself isn’t known for her sportiness, she has clearly adopted her son’s obsession. In a June 5 Instagram post recapping the shoot, she declared herself in the caption, “SCCR-MOM.”

There are plenty more stars who might further prove their allegiance to the sport by showing face at the international event. After all, stars from Ryan Reynolds to Reese Witherspoon own a stake in soccer clubs.
For his part, Reynolds admitted that purchasing Wrexham alongside It’s Always Summer in Philadelphia's Robert McElhenney in 2020 has converted him into a devout superfan.
“I know I’m a football fan and a Wrexham lifer because I’m inconsolable when we lose,” Reynolds told the New York Times in February. “I’ve never been as invested in winning and losing before.”
