Jake Waterman missed a kick with less than a minute on the clock, as the Kangaroos won by a point, 10.14 (74) to 10.13 (73) at Perth Stadium.
Earlier, talented Bombers backman Archie Roberts dislocated his right shoulder in a first-half tackle attempt as Melbourne recorded a 13.17 (95) to 6.14 (50) win at the MCG as both sides paid tribute to Neale Daniher.
