
MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — The provincial government of Bukidnon has extended P1.5 million in financial assistance to General Santos City to support relief and recovery efforts following the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani and caused widespread destruction across southern Mindanao.
The assistance was formally turned over by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), headed by Johan Damasco, on June 11, as part of Bukidnon’s contribution to ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the earthquake-hit city.
The financial aid comes as General Santos City continues to recover from one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in recent years.

Local authorities earlier placed the city under a state of calamity after the powerful tremor damaged houses, commercial buildings, public infrastructure, and government facilities.

Initial assessments placed total property damage in the city at around P1 billion, with the heavily damaged city hall among the structures requiring major reconstruction.
Bukidnon joined a growing list of local government units that have extended assistance to General Santos City.
The Cebu provincial government extended P10 million in calamity assistance, while the Cebu City Council approved P5 million in financial aid.
Mandaue City also contributed P1 million for recovery efforts.

The national government likewise released P100 million for the reconstruction of the General Santos City Hall and provided financial assistance to families affected by the disaster.
Officials said the support from neighboring local governments reflects a spirit of solidarity among communities facing large-scale disasters.

The funds are expected to help accelerate recovery efforts and restore essential services in areas hardest hit by the earthquake. /gsg

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
