What happens when food becomes more than just a meal? When recipes carry stories, memories and traditions from different parts of the world? Across Malta’s diverse communities, shared experiences like cooking and storytelling can create opportunities for people to connect, learn from one another and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
It is this spirit of community, dialogue and cultural exchange that lies at the heart of The Story Pot, one of the pilot actions currently being implemented through the ConnACT project, the result of a collaboration between the Port Regional Council and the Malta Human Rights Directorate.
The Port Regional Council and the Human Rights Directorate invite the general public and residents from across the Region to participate in The Story Pot; an opportunity to connect through food, culture and storytelling in a welcoming setting. The cooking session will be led by migrant community representatives, creating an opportunity for attendees to learn new recipes, exchange experiences and engage with people from different cultural backgrounds.

This initiative emerged from ConnACT (Connecting through Adult Community Training) which is an Erasmus+ funded project led by the Human Rights Directorate (HRD) in collaboration with partners from Italy (Regione Emilia-Romagna), Belgium (Migration Policy Group) and Finland (ELY-Keskus). The project supports the implementation of Malta’s Integration Strategy and Action Plan 2025–2030 by promoting social cohesion through inclusive, community-based initiatives.
Following a phase of research, study visits and the exchange of good practices between partner countries, ConnACT has now entered the implementation phase of its pilot actions. These initiatives are designed to bring people together through shared experiences, dialogue and participation at community level. The Story Pot is one of these pilot actions which is being supported by the Port Regional Council through its inclusion in the 2026 Region of Culture program.
The event will take place during Ħġejjeġ, a Regional Mosaic event taking place on the 27th of June 2026 at St. Michael Bastion in Senglea (Isla).
This workshop reflects ConnACT’s wider aim of strengthening intercultural dialogue and creating spaces where diversity is celebrated through active participation. By focusing on community engagement and adult learning, the project seeks to encourage stronger connections between newcomers and host communities while promoting inclusion and mutual understanding.
The public is encouraged to attend and experience how food and storytelling can help build more connected communities. To register and learn more about the event, head to Ħġejjeġ – Port Regional Council or The Story Pot – Port Regional Council.
Registration for participants is open until the 15th of June 2026.
