Kudus, Central Java (ANTARA) - The government aims to begin revitalizing 71,744 schools across Indonesia in 2026, following the renovation of 16,167 facilities last year, according to Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti.
Speaking after inaugurating an international class at an elementary school in Kudus, Central Java, on Saturday, he noted that the new target expanded from the previous Rp14 trillion (around US$780 million) allocation for 11,744 schools this year.
He reported that several schools are already under construction under an initial budget, with some expected to be inaugurated in the coming months.
“As for the additional 60,000 schools, construction may begin in August or September 2026,” Mu’ti added.
The revitalization program, he continued, covers schools from kindergarten up to the senior high school level.
Mu’ti highlighted that the initiative forms part of efforts to meet President Prabowo Subianto’s target of rehabilitating all schools in disrepair nationwide by the end of 2028.
