
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Authorities arrested a fisherman for allegedly operating without the required permit and seized about P780,750 worth of fishing equipment and catch during a maritime law enforcement operation in the waters off Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, early Saturday, June 13.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Occidental Mindoro Maritime Police Station-Abra de Ilog Marine Law Enforcement Team in coordination with the Mamburao Municipal Police Station, the 402nd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4B, and the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Occidental Mindoro Police Provincial Office.
Police said the suspect was intercepted during a seaborne patrol about five kilometers off the coast of Barangay Fatima in Mamburao while aboard a fishing banca.

A subsequent inspection allegedly revealed that the fisherman was operating without the necessary permit or authority from the concerned government agency, in possible violation of Section 86 of Republic Act No. 10654, the amended Philippine Fisheries Code.
Seized during the operation were a fishing banca valued at P500,000, a 60-horsepower marine engine worth P80,000, a fishing net valued at P200,000, and around 15 kilograms of assorted fish.
The total estimated value of the confiscated fishing assets and catch reached P780,750.
The suspect and the recovered items were brought to the Mamburao Municipal Police Station for documentation and the preparation of appropriate charges to be filed before the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Adjudication Board. /das
