CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Two elderly passengers died after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were riding plunged into a creek along the national highway in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, at around 6:25 p.m. on Friday, June 12.
Capt. Elison Pasamonte, officer-in-charge of the Badoc Municipal Police Station, said the 69-year-old driver from Langangilang, Abra, admitted that he fell asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control of the Toyota Fortuner. The vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and plunged about 10 feet into a creek, Pasamonte said.
The driver and other passengers sustained injuries and were immediately brought to separate medical facilities, including the Sinait District Hospital. One of the occupants, a senior citizen and resident of Langangilang, Abra, was declared dead on arrival at the Sinait District Hospital by the attending physician.
