Scotland made a successful start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign, marking their return to the tournament after 28 years with a 1-0 victory over Haiti on Sunday morning at Boston Stadium in the United States.
John McGinn scored the decisive goal in the 29th minute, which proved enough to secure all three points for Scotland. Although Haiti matched Scotland in possession, they were unable to find the back of the net.
With the win, Scotland climbed to the top of Group C with three points. Morocco and Brazil, who played out a draw, have one point each, while Haiti remain without a point.
Scotland last appeared at the World Cup in 1998 and had failed to qualify for every edition since then before securing a place in this year’s tournament.
The victory also marked Scotland’s first World Cup win in 36 years. Their previous World Cup triumph came in 1990 when they defeated Sweden 2-1.
In Sunday’s fourth match, Australia will face Turkey at Vancouver Stadium in Canada, with kick-off scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Nepal time.
The day’s fifth match will see Germany take on Curaçao at 10:45 p.m. Nepal time.
Earlier on Sunday, Qatar drew 1-1 with Switzerland, while Morocco and Brazil also shared the points with a 1-1 draw.
