Deputy Minister calls for higher milk drinking for golden generation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has called for stronger community milk consumption to improve nutrition quality, health, and competitiveness in support of realizing the Golden Indonesia generation 2045.

“Let's save our nation by saving our generation. Let's continue to promote drinking milk every day,” he said when met at the commemoration of Nusantara Milk Day 2026 here on Sunday.

He highlighted that the low milk consumption among Indonesians, which currently averages only about one spoonful per day, needs to be increased.

The minister said increasing milk consumption is a crucial step in strengthening the quality of Indonesia’s human resources toward a healthy and productive generation.

He explained that current national milk consumption is still around 16.2 to 16.8 liters per capita per year, equivalent to approximately one spoonful of milk per person per day.

This figure is still far below the ideal requirement to support bone growth, brain development, and sustainable improvement in public health quality.

He said milk contains various essential nutrients such as protein, calcium, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B12, and vitamin D that the body needs.

Nurofiq emphasized that adequate nutritional fulfillment is an important factor in maintaining the quality of a productive generation that will drive national development in the future.

He stressed that increasing milk consumption must become a collective movement involving the government, business sector, academics, and all levels of society.

“Immediately spark the spirit of drinking milk. It is essential because until today we are still only at one spoonful (of milk consumption). We do not want to lose even a single generation every day. Build the climate, downstream the industry,” he said.
