MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Loren Legarda extended relief operations, which she personally funded, in General Santos City on Saturday and in Sarangani on Sunday, reaching families hardest hit by the recent earthquake, according to a statement released by her office.
Legarda said she used no government funds, as part of her continuing commitment to support communities in times of crisis.
Since June 10, the Lingkod Loren team has been monitoring the situation on the ground, assessing urgent needs, and coordinating with local officials.

The relief operations continued Sunday in Glan, Sarangani, where food packs, drinking water, and blankets were distributed to families still reeling from the disaster.
“What’s important is that help will reach those affected. In each barangay we visited, we wanted them to feel that there’s a government that cares. Every pack we deliver, we want families to feel support and assurance that they are not alone in recovery,” Legarda said in a mix of Filipino and English.
The earthquake struck offshore Sarangani at 7:37 a.m. on June 8 with a magnitude of 7.8. General Santos City and Sarangani were among the areas most severely affected. /atm
