A total of 22 people were arrested overnight after being found living in Malta irregularly during a series of inspections carried out by the Police.
The arrests were made during operations in Blata l-Bajda, Ħamrun and Marsa, with further searches carried out at a number of private residences in Marsa, Ħamrun, Fgura and Rabat.
The inspections were conducted with the assistance of officials from the Detention Services Agency.
Those arrested are currently being held in a detention centre while authorities complete the necessary procedures to relocate them to their country of origin or another country where they have permission to reside.
In a statement, the authorities said Malta will continue to honour its obligations in this sector while ensuring full respect for the country’s laws.
