
Scholars and media experts from Nigeria and abroad converged on Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), for a two-day International Conference on Mass Communication, where discussions focused on the role of artificial intelligence in advancing national development.
The conference, held from June 8 to 9, 2026, was themed “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
Among participants were Sakina Wasagu, a lecturer at UDUS; Prof. Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, who served as the guest lecturer; Dr. Hauwa Dantake, a senior lecturer at UDUS; and Prof. Khadija Muhammad Sama, Head of the Department of Educational Technology at UDUS.
The event provided a platform for academics, researchers, and communication professionals to examine the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence, while emphasizing the need for ethical and innovative media practices to drive sustainable national development.
