EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first look at Anna Friel as Dr. Gloria Wall in Australian medical drama series The F Ward.
The Pushing Daisies and Marcella star plays a fearsome and fearless doctor, who along with her second-in-command, registrar Dr Curtis Parker, leads a ragtag group of medical interns on their final chance at Pines Hospital.
We first told you about the six-part show – which is from Australian streamer Stan and CBS Studios – last year in October. Paramount was selling it at the LA Screenings last month.
We can reveal the series will launch on Stan on July 17. Dan Edwards (Bump, Romper Stomper) and Kelsey Munro (Bump) are the co-creators and producers for Roadshow Rough Diamond, with John Edwards also producing.
The full synopsis for the show reads: “A new cohort of medical graduates join the Pines Hospital’s intern program. This is their last chance after each of them failed their first year as an intern doctor. Every shift they face their fears and frailties in life or-death situations – premature pregnancies, runaway retirees, impossible surgeries – all while battling bureaucracy and learning on the job in an underfunded public hospital.
“Sparks fly inside and out of the hospital, illicit workplace romances burn bright and lifelong friendships blossom. They learn how to care for their patients, each other, and themselves, on the path to becoming the doctors they dream of being.”
Starring alongside International Emmy winner Friel, are Ioane Sa’ula (Bump), Lola Bond (Last Days of the Space Age), Wyllie (Love My Way), Alex Fitzalan (Stan Original Prosper), Emily Barclay (Babyteeth), Annie Boyle (Colin from Accounts) and Rishab Kern.
Munro, Jessica Tuckwell, Shanti Gudgeon, Nick Coyle and Jack Yabsley are the writers writers and Natalie Bailey (Down Cemetery Road) and Neil Sharma (Critical Incident) the directors. Executive producers are Andy Ryan and Alicia Brown. Producers Dan and John Edwards joined forces to create Roadshow Rough Diamond a decade ago.
Here’s a selection of images from the series.
