Ahead of next Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the state police command have intensified intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
The operations, carried out around the Aramoko-Erijiyan Ekiti axis on June 8 and 9, 2026, resulted in the arrest of four suspects identified as Oyebanji Seun, Ajibade Simeon, Ige Dada and Adeoye Rasak.
Police recovered nine unlicensed locally-made guns and 24 live cartridges from the suspects.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Emure Divisional Police Headquarters, working with personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and Agro Marshal, responded to a distress call on June 10 regarding a shooting incident at Okesiri Farm Settlement.
According to police, the operatives moved to the scene, where they came under attack from armed hoodlums.
A gun duel ensued, during which one suspect, identified as Moses Bataph, was arrested while others escaped.
Items recovered from the suspect included a Beretta pistol with two rounds of live ammunition, a substance suspected to be a criminal charm and N54,200 in cash.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the suspects were undergoing investigation and would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, commended members of the public for providing credible information that led to the arrests.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and ensuring fairness and justice.
