
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Monday at 9 a.m. local time, commencing a state visit that would include talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) welcomed the German leader with a ceremony featuring an honor guard with personnel in black ceremonial uniforms carrying weapons and military attributes.
Awaiting at the foot of the aircraft steps were Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Abdul Kadir Jailani and German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste.
The airport reception also included a gun salute, underscoring Indonesia’s respect for the visiting head of state on his first official trip during Prabowo’s administration.
Steinmeier previously visited Indonesia in 2022 during the second term of the seventh president Joko Widodo.
Minister Sadikin walked the German leader and First Lady Elke Büdenbender along a blue carpet toward a brief performance of a Betawi traditional dance.
The couple then proceeded into a special vehicle bearing the flags of Indonesia and Germany, escorted by a motorcade formed by the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).
According to the agenda, the convoy was set to travel through Halim Perdanakusuma, MT Haryono, Gatot Subroto, Sudirman, M.H. Thamrin, and Medan Merdeka Barat streets before reaching the National Monument (Monas) area and arriving at the Merdeka Palace.
The Jakarta visit formed part of Steinmeier’s Asian diplomatic tour, which also included Uzbekistan and the Philippines.
In the Indonesian capital, he was scheduled to be received by President Prabowo, visit Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral, and hold a forum with national intellectuals and researchers.
Agenda items for the presidential meeting included discussing economic cooperation strategies and exploring ways to broaden the scope of exchanges of skilled workers between Indonesia and Germany.
