Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has presented the First-Class Staff of Office to His Royal Highness, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I, as the new Aren Eggon.
The ceremony was the first of its kind in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area in more than 43 years. The last presentation took place in 1982 during the administration of the late Solomon Lar, governor of the defunct Plateau State.
Sule described the occasion as historic, noting that Justice Alaku, a retired jurist, was appointed based on his ability to unite the people and his record of wisdom, integrity and fairness.
Speaking at the event, the governor announced that his administration was considering the creation of additional chiefdoms, districts and village areas to give deserving communities greater recognition and a stronger sense of belonging.
He also disclosed that some traditional rulers may have their status elevated to enhance their capacity to promote peace and social stability.
Sule described traditional rulers as custodians of culture, promoters of peace and vital links between government and the people.
He said Nasarawa State had successfully integrated traditional institutions into governance and was fortunate to have royal fathers with backgrounds in law, medicine, public service and security.
The governor congratulated Justice Alaku and urged him to uphold the values of the traditional institution for the benefit of the Eggon nation and Nasarawa State.
In his remarks, the newly installed Aren Eggon called on all sons and daughters of Eggon land to remain united, saying the greatest strength of the Eggon nation lies in unity beyond political, religious and social differences.
Justice Alaku described the stool as a symbol of unity, justice, service and cultural pride and pledged to uphold fairness, integrity, wisdom and dedication as custodian of Eggon customs and traditions.
