MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will maintain heightened security measures as more schools, particularly private institutions, begin classes for School Year 2026–2027.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police personnel will continue implementing the same security protocols deployed during the June 8 opening of classes in public schools.
“We want to assure everybody that the peace and order measures we implemented for the June 8 class opening will remain for the safety of both the students and teachers and the peace of mind of their parents,” Nartatez said in a statement.

He added that police officers will sustain heightened vigilance around both public and private schools to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel.
Around 26 million learners were enrolled in public schools for School Year 2026–2027, which opened last June 8, according to the Department of Education.
The PNP previously said the June 8 class opening was “generally peaceful and orderly.”
Nartatez said the police force continues to coordinate with local government units and school authorities as additional schools resume classes nationwide.
