Carvoeiro’s biggest night of the year – and one of Portugal’s most anticipated summer events – is almost here. With the countdown under way, organisers are preparing to welcome more than 30,000 people to the Algarve’s seaside village this Saturday, June 20, for the 12th edition of the hugely popular Carvoeiro Black & White Night.
Held across the beach and streets of Carvoeiro, the free event has grown from a local celebration into one of Portugal’s largest open-air summer parties, marking the unofficial start of the Algarve’s peak tourist season.
Running from 8.30pm until 3am, the festival will transform the village into a giant stage, featuring seven performance areas, live music, DJs, dance, cinema, street entertainment and family activities.
Inspired by the Celtic tradition of Litha, which marks the summer solstice and the longest day of the year, this year’s programme will feature tribal fire dance performances and live music, creating a magical atmosphere rooted in ancient traditions and midsummer celebrations.
The evening opens with a sunset performance by Quarteto Sul’Arte at the beach square, while Portuguese singer João Faísca will perform popular covers on Stage 2. Percussionist Vasco Ramalho will present his solo project Marimba Essences on Stage 1.
Visitors can also enjoy a silent disco, a deep house session on Carvoeiro beach, screenings of the 1922 short film The Frozen North, and a dedicated Kids Corner packed with activities for younger festivalgoers.
Among the headline acts are Brazilian singer Lidia Brandão (Stage 2), Mexican group Mariachi Mezcal (Stage 3), Portuguese folk favourites Six Irish Men (Stage 5) and DJs Francisco Gil (Stage 4), Pedro Carrilho (Beach) and Christian F (Beach), who will provide a soundtrack ranging from 1970s classics to contemporary dance hits.
As midnight approaches, the energy shifts to the beach, where hundreds of festivalgoers turn the sand into a giant dancefloor where music and celebration continue into the early hours, creating one of the Algarve’s most memorable summer spectacles.
The festival’s signature black-and-white dress code remains firmly in place, with attendees encouraged to wear only those colours throughout the evening.
Organised by the Lagoa Municipal Council, the event is free to attend, with complimentary shuttle buses running continuously between 6pm and 4am from designated car parks, including the Fatacil fairground site, Intermarché, Apolónia, Aldi and Gramital.
Organisers have also issued a reminder that glass containers and drones are prohibited throughout the event area.
With free entry, live entertainment and a dramatic seaside setting, Carvoeiro Black & White Night is once again expected to be one of the Algarve’s most memorable summer spectacles.
