
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) on Monday started its relief operations for the victims of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao recently, with more than 10,000 food packs already on the way to affected areas.
The relief food packs will be distributed in General Santos City; Mati City, Davao Oriental; the Office of Civil Defense in Soccsksargen (Region XII); and the Second District of Davao Oriental.
A total of 3,000 food pails will be allocated each for General Santos City, Mati City, and the OCD-Region XII; while 1,500 food pails will be distributed in the 2nd District of Davao Oriental through the office of Rep. Cheeno Almario.

According to Pagcor chair and CEO Alejandro Tengco, the agency’s assistance will help affected families cope with the challenges brought about by the disaster.
“During times of calamity, we assure our kababayans that Pagcor is always ready to provide help,” Tengco said in a statement.
“We hope and pray that affected individuals and families will soon be on their way to recovery and normalcy,” he added.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck 32 kilometers southwest of Maasim, Sarangani on June 8, triggering multiple aftershocks across parts of Mindanao.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. flew to Glan, Sarangani on Monday to personally check on families affected by the earthquake.
As of Monday, the number of affected individuals was 624,000, or roughly 161,000 families, in 432 barangays in the regions impacted by the powerful tremor.

According to OCD, the death toll reached 65, with most of the deaths due to earthquake-induced landslides and fallen debris.
Meanwhile, 36 people were reported missing, and 1,400 were reported injured from the earthquake in the Davao Region and Soccsksargen. /das

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
