Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a suspected arms trafficker in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops said the suspect, Danjuma Yusuf, a dismissed police Inspector, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in the area.
Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson of the Operation confirmed the arrest.
He said, “The arrest is part of the ongoing deliberate and decisive intelligence led operations across Operation ENDURING PEACE Joint Operations Area aimed at ending the activities of criminal elements and restoring peace and security.”

He added that the troops, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted Yusuf while travelling from Jos South to Makera and recovered two locally made pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, pepper spray, a jack knife, cutlasses, mobile phones, police identification items, ATM cards and ₦73,300 cash.
The operation added that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to an inter-state arms trafficking syndicate supplying weapons to criminals involved in terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The spokesperson, however, said investigations were ongoing and called on members of the general public to assist security forces with information on criminal activities in their areas.
