Portuguese olive oil brand Oliveira da Serra has secured a place among the world’s healthiest extra virgin olive oils, ranking 7th globally in a prestigious international competition focused on nutritional quality.
The brand’s premium “O Lagar” extra virgin olive oil has been named one of the top 10 healthiest olive oils in the world by the World’s Best Healthy EVOO Contest, an international competition that evaluates extra virgin olive oils based on scientific criteria.
The Portuguese oil came7th in the category “The 10 Best World EVOO by their Healthy Fatty Acids Composition”, which recognises products with the best fatty acid profiles – a key indicator of nutritional value and health benefits.
Produced by Portuguese agribusiness group Sovena, Oliveira da Serra “O Lagar” is made from carefully selected olives and extracted using methods designed to preserve its natural compounds.
The olive oil was created as a tribute to the historic Lagar do Marmelo olive mill and has become one of the brand’s most award-winning products.
According to Sovena, this latest recognition highlights Portugal’s growing reputation as a producer of premium extra virgin olive oil, and reflects increasing international attention on the health benefits associated with high-quality olive oils.
“This international recognition shows that the excellence of Portuguese olive oil goes beyond sensory characteristics,” said Loara Costa, Sovena’s Marketing and Trade Marketing Director.
“It is also the result of consistent work focused on nutritional quality and the preservation of olive oil’s natural compounds.”
Oliveira da Serra describes “O Lagar” as particularly suited to cold consumption, including salads, pasta dishes and bread tasting, thanks to its balanced flavour profile featuring notes of olive leaf, fresh-cut grass, tomato vine and walnuts.
The distinction reinforces Portugal’s position in the competitive global olive oil market, where consumers are increasingly seeking products that combine taste, authenticity and proven nutritional benefits.
