Forum Algarve in Faro is offering free oral and skin cancer screenings on June 20 as part of a health awareness initiative organised in partnership with the Portuguese Cancer League.
The campaign, titled “A Prevenção Não Tira Férias” (Prevention Doesn’t Take a Holiday), aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and encourage preventive health practices, particularly as the summer season gets under way.
The screenings will take place on the ground floor of shopping centre between 10am and 1pm and again from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. Participation is free and open to the general public, although advance registration is required.
Organisers are encouraging people considered at higher risk to take advantage of the initiative.
The skin cancer screening is particularly recommended for people over the age of 50, those with a family history of skin cancer, individuals with more than 50 moles, fair skin and light-coloured eyes, or people whose work involves significant exposure to the sun.
The oral cancer screening is aimed especially at smokers aged 40 and over, as well as people experiencing pain, lesions or changes in the oral mucosa, swelling in the mouth or upper airways, or those referred by their family doctor.
The initiative forms part of a long-standing partnership between Forum Algarve and the Portuguese Cancer League, focused on promoting public health and supporting community wellbeing.
“Promoting health and supporting social causes are part of Forum Algarve’s identity and way of operating,” said Sérgio Santos, director of Forum Algarve.
“This long-standing partnership with the Portuguese Cancer League reflects the shopping centre’s commitment to going beyond the retail experience and becoming an active contributor to the wellbeing of residents and visitors,” he added.
People wishing to participate can register by emailing [email protected] or calling 910 449 978.
