Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is set to host the second Indonesia-Germany Joint Economic and Investment Committee (JEIC) meeting later this year, marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation across several sectors.
Speaking after a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Jakarta on Monday, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto noted that he and Steinmeier discussed strengthening the partnership between the two nations, particularly in economy, investment, energy transition, security, and labor.
"We welcome the Partnering in Business with Germany program, which is aimed at MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises). Indonesia will also host the second Joint Economic and Investment Committee meeting later this year," President Prabowo said.
The JEIC serves as a cooperation platform between Indonesia and Germany that involves not only government institutions but also the private sector to strengthen economic and investment partnerships.
The committee focuses on several key sectors, including trade, industry, investment, the environment and natural resources, energy, maritime affairs, tourism, healthcare, vocational education and training, research and startup innovation, as well as MSME development.
President Prabowo stated that his bilateral meeting with Steinmeier also covered efforts to increase mutually beneficial trade and investment flows.
The discussions placed particular emphasis on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Indonesia-EU CEPA), with both sides seeking to accelerate its completion and implementation.
Prabowo expressed hope that Germany would continue to play an active role in advancing the agreement within the European Union so that it can deliver tangible benefits to businesses in both countries.
On the occasion, the president also conveyed Indonesia’s interest in expanding employment opportunities for Indonesian workers in Germany beyond the nursing sector to include high-tech industries.
"In the healthcare workforce sector, we highly appreciate the signing of the letter of intent on the global skills partnership in nursing," Prabowo said.
