Jakarta (ANTARA) - BPI Danantara, Indonesia’s newly formed sovereign wealth fund, has reported strong international investor interests in its inaugural global bond issuance, with demand led by investors from the United States.
Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday, CEO of Danantara Rosan Roeslani announced that Danantara has successfully issued international bonds worth US$1.5 billion after conducting an international roadshow to present its investment policies and institutional frameworks to 122 global investors.
“I can say the response was positive. Of the US$1 billion we initially planned to raise, we received approximately US$4.6 billion in orders during bookbuilding process,” he stated.
Due to the fourfold oversubscription during the initial offering, Danantara increased its final bond issuance from US$1 billion to US$1.5 billion.
The offering was split into five-year and 10-year tranches, carrying yields of 5.35 percent and 5.95 percent, respectively.
"This transaction is fully finalized. We signed on June 11, and on June 18, the funds will be transferred directly into Danantara's account. This is real. It proves that (international) investor confidence in Indonesia is high," Rosan added.
He further noted a historic shift in capital sourcing for the Indonesian state entity. While Indonesian global bonds are historically dominated by Asian buyers, Danantara's issuance saw unprecedented interest from Western capital markets.
For the five-year global bonds, 38 percent of investors came from the US, 41 percent from Europe and the Middle East and 21 percent from Asia.
Meanwhile, for the 10-year bonds, US investors dominated with 52 percent, followed by Europe and the Middle East at 31 percent and Asia at 17 percent.
The market triumph follows a briefing called by President Prabowo on Sunday, June 14, where the President summoned key cabinet members to evaluate the country's surging economic diplomacy.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the successful bond bookbuilding provides "valid facts and data demonstrating the increasing international trust in Indonesia's strategic economic sectors”.
