Femicide does not exist and the crime
of murdering women motivated by possessiveness, jealousy or
other hateful motives should not be considered different from
killing men, far-right leader Roberto Vannacci said Sunday.
Closing the two-day launch of his new National Future (FN)
party, the former paratroop general, bestselling anti-woke
author and remigration campaigner said Italy's 2025 law
recognising femicide as a separate felony and setting stiffer
penalties for it was an "absurdity".
"It's a murder like any other," he said saying he was convinced
that the victim's gender doesn't define a crime. "A crime isn't
more or less serious based on the sex, skin colour, or religion
of the perpetrator or victim: that's true equality," he argued.
The hard rightist, who left his post as deputy leader of the
right-wing League party to forge a solo path with his new FN,
spurred condemnation with his remarks from most parties and all
women's groups.
He defended himself by saying his remarks reflected his strong
stance against women's quotas and preferential treatment
according to gender.
Femicide has been classed as a national emergency in Italy with
murderous violence against women hitting new heights.
A campaign of education for young males towards healthy
relationships was partly stymied when the government made it
conditional on parent approval to take part.in courses in
Italy's schools.
