Jakarta (ANTARA) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier emphasized the importance of the partnership between Germany and Indonesia amid a global climate marked by various conflicts and rising violence.
In a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, Steinmeier noted that this was his fourth visit to Indonesia, a frequency that reflects just how vital bilateral relations are to Germany.
He added that the meeting was taking place against the backdrop of a highly challenging global situation.
He assessed that the meeting occurred amid a world fraught with uncertainty, citing the ongoing war in Europe and continuing conflicts in various other regions, including Sudan and the Middle East.
In a world shaken by increasing violence, he noted, partnerships like the one between Germany and Indonesia are deeply meaningful.
Steinmeier recalled that the foundation of this partnership was established with the Jakarta Declaration in 2012, expressing confidence that bilateral relations will continue to deepen.
He stated that cooperation could be further strengthened across various fields, including climate change, education, research, and culture.
Steinmeier also highlighted the broad range of topics discussed by the two countries and the progress achieved in recent years.
"There is still great potential that can be further developed in Germany-Indonesia bilateral relations," he mentioned.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that strengthening and sustaining the partnership with Germany is now a top priority for his administration.
“In today’s meeting, we discussed strengthening the Indonesia-Germany partnership, particularly in the fields of the economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment," Prabowo stated.
Prabowo invited Steinmeier to expand investment in several of Indonesia's key sectors—such as the energy transition, industrial downstreaming, and transportation—amid ongoing efforts to boost electric vehicle adoption.
