Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has designated Southeast Sulawesi Province as the launch site for the simultaneous nationwide field data collection of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026).
“Today marks an important moment as it signals the start of simultaneous field data collection for the 2026 Economic Census across Indonesia. From Southeast Sulawesi, we are taking a significant step to record the nation’s economy,” Deputy Head of BPS Sonny Harmadi said here on Monday.
Harmadi noted that the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government's commitment reflects a shared vision that on-target development must be based on high-quality data.
He explained that SE2026 is a strategic, ten-year agenda aimed at capturing the structure and characteristics of both the macro- and micro-economies.
Unlike previous censuses, SE2026 expands its coverage by integrating the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors.
Census officers will conduct door-to-door visits to track family-run economic activities, providing a comprehensive picture of national and regional economic conditions.
The field data collection is scheduled to run for two and a half months, from June 15 to August 31, 2026.
Speaking at the launch, Harmadi called on all business actors, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), local governments, academics, the media, and the public to support SE2026 through the “TIR” movement.
“The TIR movement stands for: Welcome the census officers (Terima), Fill in the data accurately (Isi), and Rest assured that data confidentiality is fully protected by law (Rahasia),” he said. (Note: Added the italicized Indonesian words in parentheses so international readers understand where the acronym "TIR" comes from).
Meanwhile, Southeast Sulawesi Deputy Governor Hugua expressed full support and readiness for the implementation of SE2026 to produce accurate, high-quality economic data.
“With this census, we will obtain accurate data. Potential sectors will be better mapped, allowing future government policy interventions to be more effective and on target,” Hugua said.
