Jakarta (ANTARA) - The state-owned company, ANTARA News Agency, is exploring expanding its media cooperation with the Chinese news agency, Xinhua, particularly in the commercial sector.
"Not only in news or exchange editor, but also in business or commercial aspect," said ANTARA President Director Benny Siga Butarbutar during a meeting with the Xinhua delegation at the ANTARA Heritage Center in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Benny, the first step is to open a Beijing corner on the ANTARA news website, followed by a Jakarta corner on the Xinhua news website.
"So, we can exchange more intense news from Jakarta and Beijing," he said, adding that the opening of such corners can improve the image of both countries.
On the same occasion, the Director General of Xinhua's Jakarta Bureau, Cao Kai, expressed his appreciation for the news exchange collaboration between Xinhua and ANTARA, stating that the two parties share many similarities.
Echoing the President Director of ANTARA News Agency, Cao Kai stated that Xinhua and ANTARA have the potential for broader cooperation beyond simply exchanging news.
"I think we should have more opportunities to exchange ideas," Cao Kai said.
He noted that Xinhua regularly organizes various events in China, Indonesia, and globally, including with ASEAN, embassies, and Chinese companies.
Cao Kai said that in addition to strengthening cooperative relations, these events also provide social and economic benefits.
"So, I think in the future we can find some good themes to organize events together," he added.
The President Director of ANTARA also invited Xinhua to participate in a business forum organized by ANTARA, scheduled later this year.
The president director also invited Chinese entrepreneurs and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry to attend the business forum.
ANTARA and Xinhua first signed a cooperation agreement in 1957, but Xinhua only began operating in Jakarta in November 1991 and launched its Indonesian-language Xinhua news channel on ANTARA's Branda channel in December 2019.
