‘Sex Criminals’: Pamela Adlon & BD Wong Join Prime Video Series, Kumail Nanjiani’s Casting Confirmed

EXCLUSIVE: Pamela Adlon (Better Things) has been tapped as a series regular opposite leads Imogen Poots and John Reynolds in Sex Criminals, Prime Video‘s series adaptation of Image Comics’ title that hails from Emily V. Gordon, Kumail Nanjiani, Tze Chun, LuckyChap and Amazon MGM Studios. BD Wong (Law & Order: SVU) is set to recur, with Nanjiani also confirmed as recurring in the eight-episode series.

In Sex Criminals, co-created by Gordon, Nanjiani and Chun, Suze (Poots), is a normal girl with an extraordinary ability: when she has sex, she stops time. One night, she meets Jon (Reynolds)… who has the same gift. And so they do what any other sex having, time stopping couple would do: they rob banks.

Adlon will play Bev, Suze’s mom. Wong will play Oliver, a bank manager with a connection to Bev and Suze. Nanjiani will play a character named Dane.

Chun serves as showrunner for the series based on the comic, written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Chip Zdarsky, which was originally published in 2013.

Gordon, Nanjiani and Dani Melia exec produce via Winter Coat Films alongside Chun, Dani Gorin for LuckyChap, Fraction and Zdarsky. Nia DaCosta directs episodes 1, 2, 7, and 8 and executive produces. Louie Hayes from LuckyChap is a producer.

Adlon is known for best known for co-creating, writing, directing, executive producing and starred in the Peabody Award-winning FX comedy series Better Things. This year, Adlon can be seen and heard in the Netflix animated series Mating Season; which just launched on Netflix, the animated feature Tangles; which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and Circles, from director Ariel Heller. She is repped by UTA, and attorneys J.R. McGinnis and Patti Felker.

Wong is known for his roles on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU and USA Network’s Mr. Robot, the latter earning him an Emmy nomination. He also recently voiced one of the main characters in the animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Wong is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency, Viking Entertainment and Peikoff Mahan.

Nanjiani has a busy 2026. He has been filming the Judd Apatow and Glen Powell movie The Comeback King and the fourth season of Mike White’s The White Lotus. He is in three features and one series released this year, The Breadwinner, See You When I See You, The Wrong Girls and Season 2 of Deli Boys.
