Another hockey series is skating into view.
On the heels of Off Campus and Heated Rivalry, Hannah Grace’s novel Icebreaker is getting made into a Netflix series produced by Alex Cooper, the streamer confirmed June 15.
Showrunner Amanda Lasher and writer Jade Bartlett are set to join forces with Cooper and husband Matt Kaplan’s Unwell Productions to adapt the bestseller and BookTok favorite.
The novel follows competitive figure skater Anastasia Allen and hockey player Nate Hawkins as they realize sharing a practice rink sparks a flame between them.
Cooper first teased the news on her Instagram Story June 15, writing alongside a picture of the novel, “BookTok girlies, I have some exciting news for you…”
Moments later, the Call Her Daddy host confirmed the news of her being a producer to her Story, adding, “SCREAMING."
Meanwhile, Lasher—who previously produced the original Gossip Girl and Togetherness—emphasized her excitement in bringing the beloved book series, which also includes sequels Wildfire and Daydream, to life.
“I have been a fan of steamy YA since the seventh grade, reading Judy Blume stealthily hidden behind a textbook,” Lasher, who will also co-write the series, shared in a statement. “I love this genre, and it’s been a joy working with Jade, the team at Unwell, and Netflix to bring Hannah Grace’s beloved Icebreaker novel to the screen ”
For her part, Bartlett—who made her debut as a director and writer in Miller’s Girl starring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman—teased what is to come of the upcoming series.

“It’s been such a joy to play in Hannah Grace’s world of Icebreaker, a story filled with ambitious, talented, and undeniably sexy characters,” Barlett added in a statement. “But the real special sauce is that, above all, they are good, deeply compassionate people…and we cannot get enough of them. Hannah has created the kind of world you want to live in, and Amanda and I are having an absolute romp with our incredible teams at Unwell and Netflix, bringing this cherished story to the screen.”
Grace—who published Icebreaker in 2022—expressed excitement for the upcoming adaptation in her own Instagram post June 15, saying, “I’m truly the luckiest girl in the world.”
Ever familiar with her audience—who have suggested stars like Madelyn Cline and Jacob Elordi as their desired leads in fan edits—the author also confirmed where the series stands in casting.
“There is zero casting news right now, but I’ll keep you posted along with other announcements when I’m allowed to!” Grace added. “If you haven’t heard it from me or Netflix/Unwell, it’s just a rumor.”
Similarly, no release date has been set quite yet—but keep reading for upcoming series releases to keep on your radar…
