
The Sokoto State Government has approved the procurement of fertilisers, improved seeds and agrochemicals worth N1.65 billion to support farmers during the 2026 wet season farming campaign.
The approval was part of decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber of Government House, Sokoto, according to a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa.
The statement disclosed that the government approved the purchase of assorted fertilisers, improved seeds and agrochemicals valued at N1,652,400,000 to complement agricultural inputs earlier procured by the 23 local government councils in the state.
According to the government, the intervention is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive the inputs at the onset of the rainy season to enhance productivity and maximise yields during the current cropping season.
The Council also approved the procurement of 1,200 Daylong motorcycles at a cost of N1,609,146,000 for distribution to civil servants under a loan scheme.
The initiative, the government said, is in fulfilment of a promise made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
In the health sector, the Council approved the upgrade of the Gagi Primary Health Centre to a General Hospital at a cost of N592,116,627.38.
It further approved the construction of a new Primary Health Care Centre in Majemar Korino, Tudun Wada area of Sokoto South Local Government Area at a cost of N143,457,763.27.
Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of an administrative block at the Primary Health Care Centre on Kontagora Road, valued at N192,909,072.50.
As part of efforts to improve infrastructure and address erosion challenges, the Council approved emergency concrete works and the rehabilitation of collapsed culverts and drainage canals behind the Rima Radio/Tudun Wada road network at a cost of N246,981,250.
The Executive Council also approved the installation and maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting system at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at a cost of N113,438,353.76.
The approvals reflected the state government’s continued investment in agriculture, healthcare, transportation and critical infrastructure aimed at improving the welfare of residents and enhancing service delivery across the state.
