
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspect and recovered a stolen cow valued at N1.5 million following a reported case of house trespass and theft in Gadau District of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, the case was reported to the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on June 12, 2026, by a 50-year-old resident of Mai Yashi Village in Gadau District.
Habib said the complainant informed the police that unknown persons had unlawfully entered his residence and stolen a cow worth N1.5 million.
“The report was received at Gadau Division on 12th June 2026 from a 50-year-old male complainant who resides in Mai Yashi Village, Gadau District. He reported that unknown hoodlums had trespassed into his house and stolen one cow valued at One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (N1,500,000.00),” the statement read.
He explained that operatives attached to the division swiftly responded by visiting the scene and launching covert intelligence-gathering efforts.
“Consequently, on 13th June, 2026, one Moh’d Dingi, a 22-year-old male of Turu Village, Itas/Gadau Local Government Area, was arrested in connection with the crime. The stolen cow was immediately also recovered as exhibit,” Habib stated.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect confessed to the offence during interrogation and identified an accomplice who remains at large.
He said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue, noting that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
“Concerted efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect, after which both will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation,” Habib added.

Meanwhile, the command has launched an investigation into a suspected murder case involving a 33-year-old man, Aminu Najamu, a resident of Kobi Street, Gwallaga, in Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to the police, Najamu entered his room on June 7, 2026, but was later found dead on June 9.
Habib said operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Township, commenced preliminary investigations upon receiving the report before transferring the matter to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of ‘A’ Division, Township, commenced preliminary investigation. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and thorough investigation,” he said.
The police image maker stressed that detectives from the SCID had commenced an in-depth investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and identify all persons connected to the incident.
“Operatives of the SCID have since taken over the matter and commenced an in-depth investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the crime,” Habib stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents that the command would ensure justice is served.
He urged members of the public with useful information to assist investigators by reporting to the nearest police station or directly to the investigating team.
The commissioner also reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that perpetrators of violent crimes would be tracked down and prosecuted.
The police pledged to keep the public informed as investigations progress.
