
TAGBILARAN CITY — The Cebu Provincial Board has approved a total of P25 million in financial assistance for four Mindanao provinces devastated by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Sarangani on June 8.
During its session on Monday, the provincial board unanimously passed four resolutions authorizing Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro to release P10 million to Sarangani province and P5 million each to Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and South Cotabato.
The resolutions were authored by Provincial Board Member Red Duterte and approved en masse during a session presided over by Provincial Board Member Stanley Caminero.

The latest allocation comes on top of the P10 million assistance earlier approved by the provincial board for General Santos City, bringing Cebu’s total financial aid package for earthquake-affected areas to P35 million.

The June 8 earthquake, one of the strongest to hit the country in decades, caused widespread destruction across parts of Mindanao, particularly in Sarangani, General Santos City, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, and Davao del Sur.
The Office of Civil Defense reported that the death toll had risen to 61 as of June 13, while 1,221 people were injured and 33 others remained missing.
Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage as recovery and rehabilitation efforts are underway in affected communities.
Thousands of families have been displaced, while homes, schools, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure sustained significant damage. /gsg

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
