
MANILA, Philippines — More than a week after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck offshore Maasim, Sarangani in Mindanao, state seismologists have recorded over 6,600 aftershocks.
As of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) showed that 6,652 aftershocks had been recorded following the powerful offshore earthquake.

Of these, 1,575 events have been plotted and analyzed, while 80 were reported felt by residents in various parts of Mindanao and neighboring areas.

The recorded aftershocks ranged from 1.2 to 6.4 in magnitude.
The June 8 offshore Sarangani earthquake was among the strongest seismic events recorded in the region in recent years.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) previously said that more than 720,000 people were affected by the quake, while damage to infrastructure and housing was estimated at over P1 billion. /das

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
