Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged torture and death of a 15-year-old house help in Benin City, Edo State.
The deceased, identified as Tyowase Joy Mfena, was reportedly brought fraom Benue State to Benin City to work as a domestic help.
Sources said the teenager died from injuries allegedly sustained after being subjected to severe abuse at a residence in Ogobi Community along Sapele Road, where she worked.
The spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, saying three suspects linked to the alleged murder had been arrested.
According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the prime suspect, Glory Amadasun, allegedly accused the teenager of stealing N200,000 and subsequently subjected her to severe assault.
“The assault allegedly resulted in the victim’s death,” Ikoedem stated.
She added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the incident and who are currently at large.
The police spokesperson said the deceased’s body had been deposited at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while investigations continued.
Meanwhile, a community source disclosed that the deceased was brought to Benin City from Benue State alongside two other girls identified as Tyowase Miriam Nguevese and Dose Ishor Zua.
