Jakarta (ANTARA) -
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Germany in addressing global challenges during a state luncheon for German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender in Jakarta on Monday.
"I hope your visit will further strengthen our cooperation, especially amid the current global dynamics and uncertainties," Prabowo said, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
The president expressed appreciation for the decades-long bilateral relationship between the two countries, describing Germany as one of Indonesia's key partners in Europe.
"I appreciate the warm, open, and productive discussions we had today. Germany holds a special place for Indonesia. For 74 years, our diplomatic relations have brought tangible benefits to our peoples, making Germany one of Indonesia's most important partners in Europe," Prabowo remarked.
He noted that Germany has long served as a source of inspiration for Indonesia's development, particularly in innovation, technological advancement, discipline, and respect for institutions.
He pointed out that many Indonesians have pursued education and professional training in Germany, including Indonesia's third president B.J. Habibie, who spent years studying and working there.

Prabowo expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would continue to expand across various sectors.
"I can personally testify to this strength because I myself underwent training in Germany in 1981," he said.
Prabowo also highlighted Germany's role in introducing Indonesia to the international community, including through academic circles, even before Indonesia gained independence.
"Although our two countries will soon celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the foundations of our relationship were laid long before Indonesia gained its independence," he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Prabowo thanked Steinmeier for visiting Indonesia and expressed hope that bilateral ties would continue to flourish.
"I wish President Steinmeier and Mrs. Büdenbender good health and success, and the people of Indonesia and Germany continued prosperity and friendship," he said.
