
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Drag artist Pura Luka Vega joined a Pride-related religious gathering at Open Table Metropolitan Community Church, where the artist helped celebrate and serve communion.
In a Facebook post, Open Table MCC described the gathering as a special day for the church and its community.
“Today is a very special day because we are joined by [Pura Luka Vega] to celebrate and to serve communion with us,” the church said.

Open Table MCC, a progressive Christian church that affirms LGBTQIA+ people, said the act was part of reclaiming space for queer people and marginalized communities.
‘Reclaiming our space’
“This is reclaiming our space as queer people and as a marginalized community, because the Eucharist is a sacrament that is an Open Table for all,” the church added.
The church also greeted its followers for Pride, saying, “Happy Pride, mga Mahal (Happy Pride, Beloved)!”
Pura Luka Vega is a drag artist whose performances have sparked public debates on religion, identity, and artistic expression.

The church’s post drew attention as it framed communion, a central Christian sacrament, as part of a Pride gathering centered on acceptance and belonging for LGBTQIA+ people.
