PNP: P60-M drugs found in parcels at Pasay City mail hub

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said its operatives, in coordination with the Bureau of Customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), discovered suspected illegal drugs worth P60 million in parcels at a mail hub in Pasay City.

In a statement, the PNP said the drugs were discovered during a screening procedure at the Central Mail Exchange Center along Domestic Road on Monday.

According to the police, recovered from the parcels were suspected marijuana kush worth P8.25 million; suspected liquid marijuana worth P5 million; suspected shabu (crystal meth) worth P46.95 million; and several ecstasy tablets, opium poppy products, and other substances.

“The parcels originated from multiple international locations, including Thailand, India, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and other countries, and were consigned to various individuals across different areas in the Philippines,” the PNP said.

“The contraband was concealed in ordinary-looking items such as snacks, coffee products, decorative materials, household filters, wooden organizers, toys, and electronic equipment in an apparent attempt to evade detection,” it added.

The parcels were turned over to the PDEA for further laboratory examination and investigation to determine the networks behind the packages. /mcm
