(NewsNation) — A nasal spray sold on Amazon is being recalled due to possible mold and yeast contamination that could cause life-threatening infections in some users, according to a company announcement.
Beekeeper’s Naturals announced June 11 it is voluntarily recalling Lot No. 5950 of its Saline Nasal Spray after testing found microbial levels above acceptable limits for yeast and possible mold contamination.
The company says the lot was shipped to Amazon before test results came back due to a clerical error.
In people with weakened immune systems or lung disease, exposure to the mold, Aspergillus, can cause serious and life-threatening infections, including invasive sinusitis and lung infections, the company said.
Beekeeper’s Naturals said it has received four reports of adverse reactions potentially linked to the product, including sinus congestion, irritation and infection.
Around 585 units of the recalled lot were sold through Amazon between April 2 and April 24, according to the announcement. The product comes in a 1-ounce bottle and expires in February 2028.
Beekeeper’s Naturals said it has already worked with Amazon to notify anyone who purchased the affected lot. No other products, including its Nasal Spray Max, are impacted by the recall.
