MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Mark Villar was noticeably not among the signatories of the Supreme Court petition filed on Tuesday by the Cayetano bloc to declare null and void the Senate proceedings on June 3, which put Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian as the Acting Senate President.
According to his office, this was due to Villar’s trip abroad.
“We would like to inform everyone that Senator Mark Villar is abroad due to personal reasons,” one of the senator’s staff told the media in a text message on Tuesday.

Apart from Villar, the bloc led by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano consists of Sens. Pia Cayetano, Sens. Loren Legarda, Imee Marcos, Rodante Marcoleta, Camille Villar, Robin Padilla, Joel Villanueva, Christopher “Bong” Go, Jinggoy Estrada, and Bato dela Rosa.
Notably, Villar wasn’t the only senator who did not petition against the Gatchalian bloc.
Dela Rosa who is in hiding from an International Criminal Court arrest warrant is also a nonsignatory, as well as Villanueva who has yet to comment on his lack of participation in the petition. /jpv
