‘I’m Leaving Politics With My Integrity Intact’: Albert Buttigieg Announces Political Exit

Former PN MP Albert Buttigieg has announced that his political journey has come to an end following the latest election result, saying he is leaving politics with his integrity intact, a Maltese expression used to signify honesty and integrity.

In an emotional statement shared on social media, Buttigieg congratulated those who were elected while acknowledging that the result marks the end of his political chapter.

“I will be closing my political chapter with serenity and great honesty,” he said, adding that every ending also represents a new beginning.

Before entering parliament, Buttigieg held several roles throughout his career, including priest, teacher, manager, CEO, deputy mayor and mayor. Reflecting on his time in politics, he said he always sought to be a voice for residents and the common good.

The former MP stressed that he remained faithful to his values throughout his political career, even when doing so was difficult.

“I am leaving this political chapter the same way I entered it, with my integrity intact,” he said.

Despite stepping away from elected politics, Buttigieg made it clear that he has no intention of remaining silent.

He pledged to continue speaking out as a private citizen on issues he remains passionate about, including environmental protection, social justice and inclusion.

Buttigieg also thanked the Nationalist Party for giving him the opportunity to serve, paying particular tribute to former PN leader Simon Busuttil for believing in him, while also expressing gratitude to his family and supporters.

“When one door closes, another opens,” Buttigieg ended his message by insisting that the journey continues.

“The walk and life go on… and how they do.”
