Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has urged students and teachers in Indonesia to master artificial intelligence (AI) to navigate the massive digital transformation.
"We can no longer close our eyes or simply be onlookers. We must be the players; we must master this technology," Gibran said in a video posted on his official Instagram account on Tuesday.
He emphasized to students that AI must be viewed as a tool to fast-track learning, not as a shortcut that feeds laziness.
The vice president likened the technology to a personal assistant that simplifies data collection, language acquisition, and complex mathematical formulas.
Nevertheless, he cautioned that mastering AI should not erode the critical thinking skills of the younger generation.
Therefore, he urged that the utilization of this new technology remain focused on fostering creativity and preserving independent thinking.
"The good news is that so many advanced AI technologies are now open-source. The knowledge is free, the code is open, and anyone can access it," Gibran said.
He stressed that technological mastery is the primary key for Indonesia to achieve its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Amid the rapid growth of technology, he also urged teachers and parents to remain persistent in upgrading their own skills.
Gibran explained that using AI wisely can cut down on administrative burdens for teachers. The technology also helps them draft exam questions, present engaging materials, and provide practical case studies for students.
However, he also highlighted a crucial message on the importance of maintaining ethics and integrity when using AI, warning against its misuse for spreading hoaxes, plagiarism, or committing privacy violations.
Furthermore, the vice president affirmed that the Indonesian government has completed UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology to measure the readiness of Indonesia's future AI governance.
"Let us make AI a bridge toward a more advanced, bright, and dignified Indonesia," he remarked.
