The Pitt’s Patrick Ball Has Hilarious Reaction to More Potential Cast Changes
TV's most trusted doctors are reporting for duty.
The Pitt has officially resumed filming two months after the HBO Max drama's cliffhanger season two finale aired in April.
"Badging in," the streamer wrote on X June 16, adding, "Production for Season 3 of #ThePitt has begun."
In an accompanying video from the set, the emergency room security badges of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital staff are shown, confirming which fan-favorite characters are definitely returning for the new season.
Among the physicians swiping in for another 15-hour shift are Dr. Michael Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), charge nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi), Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dr. Melissa King (Taylor Deardon), Dr. Trinity Santos (Isa Briones), Dr. Dennis Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Dr. Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez).
Plus, night shift staple Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) and Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris), who may be making the swap to the daytime team with Harris’ upgrade to series regular for season three.
However, the teaser shares just a glimpse at some of the ensemble cast members. After all, it doesn't include supporting cast members like Kristin Villanueva (Princess), Amielynn Abellera (Pearlah) or Jalen Thoms Brooks (Mateo Diaz)—pulling double duty with his Off Campus responsibilities—who are expected to return.
Of course, noticeably absent is Supriya Ganesh, whose character Dr. Samira Mohan won't appear in the forthcoming season. While Mohan's presence will certainly be missed, Wyle previously explained that senior residents often change hospitals as part of their medical training.
"It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically," the ER alum told Variety in April. "Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh."
Meanwhile, Azeez recently spooked fans by teasing that Javadi won't be rejoining the emergency trauma staff next season. However, she isn't going far.

"I can say that I’m not in the ER this season," she told Bustle in the interview published June 10, adding, "I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation."
And Azeez is excited to get her feet wet in a new field of medicine.
"It’s a very different vibe for me," the 29-year-old admitted. "And I’m scared and nervous. But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine."

As for what else fans can expect from season three, Wyle previously confirmed it will take place in late fall several months after season two’s Fourth of July weekend.
"In the wintertime, you get more car accidents, more black ice, more boilers exploding and that kind of stuff," the 54-year-old told People in April. "Different wardrobe, different vibe."
