Amazon MGM Studios has decided to call the shots.
The company has picked up Shots! Shots! Shots!, a Jason Momoa action-comedy that was previously at Universal.
Momoa is in talks to star in the feature project, which is being produced by Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, the banner behind the $1 billion grossing live-action Lilo & Stitch remake. Momoa would also join the producing team along with Jeff Fierson.
An original spec from scribes Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, the project landed at Universal in 2022. But shifting budgetary priorities led to Universal rethinking the project and opting to put it into turnaround. Amazon MGM was more than happy to snap it up, having seen what a successful Momoa action comedy looks like. The actor’s The Wrecking Crew was a massive hit for the company when it debuted earlier this year on streaming.
The story details are being kept under the umbrella, but the project is described as a family-centric adventure that has tones of James Cameron’s True Lies, Liam Neeson’s Taken franchise and recent Paramount hit The Lost City.
Mider and Burrows will executive produce as will Rideback’s Ryan Halprin.
The project remains in development is not expected to be Momoa’s next feature. The actor, who recently dropped out of Sony’s Helldivers, which was due to begin shooting in August, will next be seen playing popular antihero Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl. The superhero movie opens June 26.
Momoa’s busy year continues with Legendary’s Street Fighter, which hits theaters Oct 16, and Dune: Part Three, being released Dec. 18.
Momoa is repped by WME. Mider and Burrows are repped by WME and Silver Lake Entertainment.
