Justin Trudeau Addresses Missing Canada World Cup Game for Katy Perry

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s latest outing will make your heart go boom, boom, boom.

The “Firework” hitmaker and the former Prime Minister of Canada stepped out for a romantic picnic date in Santa Barbara, Calif., June 13.

During their nature-filled outing, Perry—donning a white T-shirt and matching flowy pants—cozied up on top of the politician as he leaned up to give her a tender kiss on her nose.

Trudeau, for his part, wore a green T-shirt, shorts and black sunglasses as the pair lounged on a red gingham picnic blanket.

Their intimate park date comes just one day after Perry performed at the 2026 World Cup Opening Ceremony ahead of the U.S. men’s national team game in Los Angeles.

While she performed a whimsical duet of her 2024 song “Wonder” with 10-year-old artist Tius, all eyes were on Trudeau, who cheered her on from the audience.

Indeed, the appearance raised eyebrows considering he skipped out on his native Canada’s World Cup Opening Ceremony, which was scheduled for the same day. But as the 54-year-old noted on X June 13, “Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call.”

Even so, he’ll always rep the great white north.

As he added alongside a Canadian flag emoji, “But you know who I’m rooting for to take the Cup.”

Despite his allegiance, Perry has  proven to Trudeau that California Gurls are truly unforgettable. Recently, the couple took their romance to the next level as they stepped out for their red carpet debut at the Tribeca Festival June 8.

For the occasion, the “Teenage Dream” singer was radiant as she donned a drapey white gown. Meanwhile, Trudeau kept it classy in a crisp black suit with a white shirt underneath.

At the event, Perry—who has been dating Trudeau publicly since Summer 2025—shared insight into the pair’s connection.

“I am very in love,” she said during the NYC premiere of her concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour, adding of the project, “Actually that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that.”

And as Perry shoots across the sky, it’s Trudeau who is saying "Oh, oh, oh.”

“Because I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite,” she added. “I fly super high and like, you know, touch the veil, cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.”
