Scheffler is chasing a fifth major in as many seasons, having won the PGA Championship and The Open last year, while Cameron Young and two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau are among the other Americans chasing a home victory.
Rory McIlroy posted back-to-back runner-up finishes at this event in 2023 and 2024 but now chases a second victory of the season, 15 years on from claiming his maiden major title in the 2011 US Open.

Tommy Fleetwood finished runner-up to Koepka the last time the US Open was held at this venue in 2018 and Matt Fitzpatrick is another English contender at this week's major, where there are 156 players in the field.
The US Open is the third of four men's majors, with McIlroy winning The Masters in April before Aaron Rai claimed the PGA Championship last month. The Open at Royal Birkdale in England (July 16-19) then completes the major season.
