The White House on Tuesday knocked outspoken Trump critic and New York congressional candidate George Conway (D) for airing a congressional campaign ad where he promises to impeach President Trump.
“Lightweight George Conway is a stupid person’s idea of a smart person,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told The Hill. “His severe and debilitating disease known as Trump Derangement syndrome has melted his brain and made him crazy in the head.”
Conway, a lawyer seeking to succeed retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and represent New York’s 12th Congressional District, addresses President Trump in the ad.
“I cost you $88 million f—ing dollars, and I’ve only just gotten started,” he says in the ad, referring to the $88 million a judge ordered Trump to pay writer E. Jean Carroll for defamation after denying her allegations that he sexually assaulted her.
Conway encouraged Carroll to take legal action against the president.
The ad goes on with Conway saying that Trump likes having his name on buildings, referring to his business and, until this last weekend, the Kennedy Center.
“But the only thing your name is going to be left on when I’m done with you is an orange jumpsuit you’re going to have to wear in prison,” Conway continues before pointing to the Capitol Building behind him. “And you see that building back there? That’s where we’re going to hold your third and final impeachment trial.”
The New York Democrat adds that this impeachment will be “the one that’s going to put you away for good, and I’m going to enjoy every minute of that.” The ad ends with Conway giving a middle finger to a presidential motorcade.
Conway, the ex-husband of former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, has made the president a focal point of his campaign.
He mentioned Trump’s name several times during a debate earlier this month against former President Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg (D), New York State Assemblymembers Alex Bores (D) and Micah Lasher (D) in a debate held P1X11, the New York-based Nexstar affiliate. Nexstar also owns The Hill.
Conway reiterated more than once that any progress Democrats advocate for their constituents can only be realized with Trump out of office.
“This criminal, this rapist, this absolute sick man stands in the way of any such progress, and until he is removed, until his cabinet’s removed, we can’t make progress, significant progress, on this,” Conway said early in the debate.
The 12th Congressional District covers much of Manhattan, including the Upper West Side, Upper East Side and Midtown.
