The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has formally received the Letters of Credence of six ambassadors and the Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The accreditation ceremony, held at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, brought together distinguished diplomats representing Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
The diplomats accredited to ECOWAS are H.E. Muhannad Alhammouri, Ambassador of the State of Palestine; H.E. John Akel Ballout Jr., Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia; H.E. Mehmet Poroy, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye; H.E. Bambang Suharto, Ambassador of Indonesia; H.E. Thomas Vyprachticky, Ambassador of the Czech Republic; H.E. Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates; and H.E. Abdouraouf Gnon-Konde, Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
In a letter addressed to Ambassador Alhammouri, Dr Touray acknowledged his accreditation and conveyed the Commission’s readiness to extend full cooperation and support throughout his tenure.
He also reaffirmed the ECOWAS Commission’s commitment to working closely with the Palestinian representative in advancing areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Alhammouri’s appointment is expected to further strengthen relations and cooperation between the State of Palestine and the ECOWAS Commission.
The exchange reflects the shared commitment of both parties to fostering constructive dialogue, mutual understanding, and enhanced collaboration in pursuit of common objectives.
The presentation of Letters of Credence is a significant diplomatic process through which ambassadors and representatives are formally recognised and authorised to engage with ECOWAS on behalf of their respective governments and organisations.
Beyond the ceremonial significance, the event symbolises the strengthening of diplomatic relations and the expansion of opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
